Self-Esteem Scale: source, items, and scoring
Review the source, item design, scoring rules, and responsible use of Self-Esteem Scale.
What this assessment measures
Complete the public-domain 10-item Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale for a 0–30 global self-esteem score.
Source and scoring design
- RSES contains ten items rated 0 to 3. Five negatively worded items are reversed before summing, producing a 0-to-30 total.
- The score reflects current global self-evaluation. It does not measure ability, morality, or social value and cannot diagnose depression or anxiety by itself.
- Recent setbacks, relationship changes, and stress can affect results. Persistent low self-worth, impairment, hopelessness, or safety concerns warrant qualified support.
How to answer
Complete all 10 items using the full response scale. Follow the time frame in the instructions, answer for your usual experience, and avoid choosing an ideal answer.
Dimensions
- Global self-esteem:Overall sense of self-worth and self-acceptance.

Limits and privacy
This scale reflects global self-evaluation and does not diagnose depression, anxiety, or any other condition. A score is not a judgment of personal worth. Seek qualified or local emergency support if persistent worthlessness, hopelessness, or safety risk is present.
