When to use it
Use this read-only tool when you received one DICOM file and only want to inspect its tags and uncompressed pixel content on a trusted device, not make a diagnosis. DICOM contains pixels plus patient, device, and exam information. This tool is only for single-file access and education, never diagnosis, treatment, or clinical decisions.
Practical example
Load one DCM file, review transfer syntax, rows, columns, and bits allocated, then inspect the grayscale preview. Hide PatientName, PatientID, AccessionNumber, and StudyDate before screenshots.
Steps
- On a trusted device, choose one .dcm or .dicom file.
- Review transfer syntax, rows, columns, bit depth, and essential tags.
- Preview grayscale pixels when the uncompressed format is supported.
- Remove names, IDs, and exam dates before sharing screenshots.
Result checklist
- SOP Instance UID and essential exam tags are present
- Rows, columns, bits allocated, and pixel payload agree
- Transfer syntax is one of the currently supported uncompressed formats
- Screenshots contain no names, identifiers, or dates
First troubleshooting checks
The file is recognized but no image appears
Its compressed syntax or non-image object may be unsupported; never overwrite the original while converting.
There is only one image and no stack scrolling
This version inspects one file at a time and does not browse DICOMDIR, ZIP, or multi-file series.
Real limitations
- Not a certified medical device and not for diagnosis
- This version previews common uncompressed 8/16-bit grayscale pixels; compressed syntax, series, SR, segmentation, and multiframe objects are incomplete
- Web display does not replace a calibrated workstation or radiology report
Privacy and file safety
Parsing runs in the current browser tab and the file is not uploaded to FreeTool to use this tool. Still use a trusted device for customer, engineering, research, or medical material. Keep the original unchanged and clear downloads, screenshots, and browser data after a shared device.
