Animated QR File and Text Transfer: Sending, Receiving, and Verification

Switch between files and typed text, generate QR codes, receive through a camera, copy text or download TXT, and understand local processing and recovery.

How animated QR transfer works

A normal website QR contains a link. Animated QR transfer splits a file or text into packets and repeatedly displays them on the sender's screen. The receiver reads those packets through its camera and reconstructs the content in its browser. The devices do not need the same Wi-Fi network or a cloud upload. The initial page and decoder load needs a connection. Prepare the receiving device while online before using offline reception.

Sending and receiving

  1. Open QR File Transfer on the sender and select File or Text. Choose one file up to 5 MiB, or enter text and click Generate QR codes. Test first with a short message or small image of a few dozen KiB.
  2. Scan the entry QR with the other device's system camera to open the lightweight receiver directly. No address entry or Receive tab is required. That QR opens a web page; it does not contain the entire file.
  3. Start the camera on the receiver page and grant permission. Opening a link cannot bypass browser camera permission.
  4. Click Start sending on the sender. Aim at its screen with all animated QR codes and their white margins in view. Keep both tabs in the foreground and prevent the display from locking.
  5. Wait for reconstruction and integrity verification to finish. Save a received file, or view received text directly and copy it or download it as TXT.

Entering and receiving text

Text is transferred as entered, preserving Chinese characters, emoji, line breaks, and spaces. The receiver displays plain text: links do not open automatically and HTML is not executed. Editing the sender's text stops the old transfer. Generate new QR codes and start sending again so the receiver does not mistake old data for the edited content.

The text limit is 5 MiB measured in UTF-8 bytes, not five million characters. Chinese characters and emoji commonly use multiple bytes. Copying preserves the original text; TXT downloads use UTF-8 encoding.

Dropped frames and recovery

The transport checks each chunk, discards duplicates, and uses parity frames and repeated playback to fill gaps. The camera does not have to start at frame one; missed chunks can arrive during a later pass. Parity can repair a limited number of gaps, not arbitrary frame loss. If the camera moves away briefly, aim it at the same transfer again. Refreshing or closing the receiver, switching files, or regenerating text can interrupt reception; do not rely on recovery across browser sessions.

Preparing offline reception

Click Prepare offline receiver on the receiving device while it has a connection. Wait for confirmation and open the dedicated receiver to check it. Keep its address: while offline, open the cached receiver or scan the sender's entry QR. Preparation caches only the application and decoder, not transferred files. Save received results before closing the page.

A first visit without preparation cannot load the application without a connection. Private browsing, storage limits, or browser cache clearing can remove the offline resources, requiring online preparation again. Camera access still needs user permission. Test the same browser with the connection disabled before relying on offline reception.

Verification and privacy

Each packet includes CRC32 to reject damaged frames. Reconstructed files and text also undergo SHA-256 integrity verification. Integrity means agreement with the transmitted data; it does not establish who sent it, whether the contents are safe, or whether the transfer was encrypted. File and text encoding, camera processing, and reconstruction run in the current browser. Transfer contents are not uploaded to FreeTool. The initial load needs a connection. Complete offline preparation on the receiving device while online to use its dedicated receiver offline; prepare again if the browser clears its cache. QR codes are not encryption: anyone who can film the screen may receive the content.

Suitable content

Configuration fragments, messages, small documents, and reduced-size images are practical. Enter text directly without creating a file first. Videos and photo collections can take a long time to scan. Use a conventional file transfer method for large content, and apply normal file safety checks before opening a downloaded file.
