How to inspect LAS, LAZ files
LAS and LAZ are common lidar and photogrammetry exchange formats. This tool provides a visual sanity check, not survey certification or reprojection.
- Choose a .las or .laz point cloud.
- Wait while headers and point records load in batches.
- Switch among RGB, elevation, and classification coloring.
- Check point count, bounds, scale, gaps, and obvious outliers.
What this tool helps with
- No CloudCompare installation
- Quick elevation and class inspection
- The file is parsed inside this browser tab and is not uploaded to FreeTool to use the tool.
Compatibility and limitations
- Large files may be sampled; displayed points can be fewer than source records
- Custom VLR/EVLR records may not be interpreted
- No reprojection, accuracy assessment, or ground classification
Frequently asked questions
Why does LAZ load more slowly?
LAZ must be decompressed in the browser, so time depends on file size and device performance.
Can I measure true distance?
Measurements only make sense when units and CRS are known; verify deliverables in survey software.
Is the point cloud uploaded?
The file is parsed inside this browser tab and is not uploaded to FreeTool to use the tool.
