How to use Video Speed Changer: settings and output checks

When to use it

Change playback speed and process decodable audio in sync, then export MP4. Speed changes duration and require audio time stretching. Extreme values can distort sound; phase one does not promise professional pitch preservation or optical-flow interpolation.

Practical example

A 2× setting turns 60 seconds into about 30. Audio time stretching keeps sync, but extreme rates distort and slow motion does not create real frames.

Steps

  1. Choose video and confirm original duration and audio tracks.
  2. Set a speed within the supported range.
  3. Preview audio and the estimated new duration.
  4. Encode and inspect sync, sound, motion, and ending.

Choosing parameters

  • Speed: 0.25×–4×
  • Quality / CRF
  • Audio bitrate; removing audio is not currently exposed

Test a short or lower-resolution sample first. Do not raise bitrate, sample rate, frame rate, or resolution merely to look “clearer”; re-encoding cannot recover information missing from the source.

Real limits and device requirements

  • Extreme speed sounds and looks unnatural
  • No AI or optical-flow frame interpolation
  • Variable frame rates and complex audio can drift

FFmpeg WebAssembly in a browser depends on device CPU, memory, and bundled codecs. It is not native desktop FFmpeg performance and does not support every codec sharing an extension. Keep the page active; phones, long/high-resolution media, and large files fail more easily.

Will pitch change?

Time stretching is attempted within the supported range, but extreme settings do not promise professional pitch quality.

Why is slow motion choppy?
